First Memory That Comes To Your Mind?
The first memory that comes to my mind right now is when my cat was hanging outside the window on the 6th floor of our apartment building when he was a kitten.
I say this, because right now I am sitting outside enjoying some sunshine with my cat while he is tormented by the spotted doves that love our courtyard (I always put seeds out for them).
The memory starts with my husband and I climbing into bed late one night, we had a lovely night of playing computer games with some wine and we had noticed that our kitten was no where to be seen. Usually he joins us when we brush our teeth, but we didn’t think anything of it. As we climbed into bed, we noticed how awfully quiet it was. We presumed he must have been out in the living room or kitchen.
It was until we were lying very still that my husband had a feeling he was paying attention to our bedroom window being open, as during this time our kitten was having this weird fascination with our open windows (we ended up having to have them essentially closed all the time because they were just pure glass, no fly screen protectors).
I was petrified to look, but I quietly climbed out of bed and moved the blind aside to see our kitten hanging half out of this glass window with this front paws stretching down the glass on our 6th floor apartment building. He wanted to jump down to the bricks that were far too thin for him to stand on so that he could explore, but as it had been raining it was incredibly slippery and he absolutely would not have been able to survive jumping out the window.
I screamed, which I shouldn’t have done because that in itself would have startled him. But as I screamed, I had reached out of the window and grabbed his tiny kitten self and yanked him back inside. After that incident, we no longer trusted having windows open!
You would think that was the only dangerous thing my cat has ever done, but his recorded history with us has only gotten worse over the years. He is by far the most cheeky, up to no good cat we have ever had. If you’ve ever seen Marley & Me, think of that but cat version.
